China's strategic position in the global aviation market has become increasingly prominent
2021.04.01
China's extensive transportation network is empowering all production factors at a higher speed, and it has a huge boost to industry, agriculture, and service industries. Time that has been excluded from productivity data and given a higher speed is becoming a shortage of production factors. The growth rate of China's economy leading the world cannot be explained from the perspective of cost. The underlying factor is that we have used big transportation to create more time than other economies. In the construction of the "double cycle" new development pattern, the time production factors created by the big transportation will shape the new topology of China's economy and release a stronger economic equivalent.

China's civil aviation transportation industry took the lead in recovering and bucking the trend of the global new crown pneumonia epidemic, demonstrating the resilience and vitality of China's economy, and also let the world see the strength of China's economy-giving the plane, the "time machine" a bigger sky ,more opportunities.

Be the first to bottom out

As a barometer of economic development, the civil aviation transportation industry is an important strategic industry of the country and an important part of the modern transportation system. The Civil Aviation Administration stated that in 2020, as the new crown pneumonia epidemic will have a huge impact on the global civil aviation industry, due to China's effective epidemic prevention and control measures, China's civil aviation industry has taken the lead in the world to bottom out and become the world's fastest recovery and best operation aviation market.
Statistics show that China's civil aviation passenger traffic has ranked second in the world for 15 consecutive years. In 2020, China's civil aviation industry will complete 79.85 billion ton-kilometers, 420 million passengers, and 6.766 million tons of total transportation turnover, passenger transportation, cargo and mail transportation, which is equivalent to 61.7%, 63.3%, and 89.8% in 2019. In the fourth quarter, China's total civil aviation transportation turnover, passenger transportation, cargo and mail transportation volume recovered to 76.3%, 84.2%, and 95.8% respectively in the same period of the previous year, of which domestic airline transportation recovered to 94.5%.

In fact, in 2020, when the global economy is extremely difficult, China's economic performance is particularly eye-catching.  The National Bureau of Statistics released data on January 18. In 2020, China's GDP will exceed 100 trillion yuan for the first time. Calculated at comparable prices, an increase of 2.3% over the previous year. China has become the world's first major economy to achieve positive growth.

The GDP breakthrough of 100 trillion yuan marks a new level of China's economic strength and overall national strength. At the same time, China has implemented new development concepts and promoted high-quality development. The quality and efficiency of economic growth have steadily improved, and it is also creating more opportunities for the world from China. According to data from the Ministry of Commerce, China's actual use of foreign capital for the whole year of 2020 is nearly 1 trillion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 6.2%, and its share in the world continues to increase, making an important contribution to stabilizing the economic fundamentals.
Lin Shiwei, President of Honeywell China and President of Aerospace Group Asia Pacific, said: “With the effective control of the domestic epidemic in China, the resumption of work and production has accelerated, a large number of travel needs have resurfaced, and the recovery of China's domestic civil aviation transportation industry leads the world. As a witness and participant in the development of China's civil aviation industry, Honeywell is confident in the sustained development of the Chinese economy and the Chinese market."

Drive the key engine

With the process of reform and opening up, China's civil aviation industry has taken off, creating a development miracle of double-digit growth that has attracted the attention of the world for decades. With the outbreak of the new crown pneumonia epidemic and changes in the domestic and international economic situation, the civil aviation industry, which is extremely sensitive to the economy, is also facing the challenge of improving quality and efficiency. Some industry authorities said that China is a market of strategic significance for the global aviation industry and will become a key engine driving the recovery and long-term development of the market.

Xu Gang, CEO of Airbus China, said: "The Chinese aviation market has shown very good resilience in the epidemic, which has injected sufficient confidence into the global aviation industry, including aircraft manufacturers like Airbus."

In 2020, Airbus delivered a total of 99 civilian aircraft to Chinese users, accounting for 17.5% of its global deliveries. It is worth mentioning that China’s delivery volume in the fourth quarter of last year rose from less than 6% of the global delivery volume in the first quarter to 25%; in December, Airbus completed the delivery of 26 aircraft to the Chinese market, which setting a historical record for the monthly delivery volume to Chinese users.

"This fully demonstrates the strong recovery momentum of China's civil aviation market. China's strategic position in the global aviation market has become increasingly prominent, and we will continue to fulfill our consistent commitment to China." Xu Gang said.

It is reported that since the Asian final assembly line of Airbus's A320 series aircraft in Tianjin began operation in 2008, it has assembled and delivered more than 500 aircraft.

In the Airbus new-generation long-range wide-body aircraft A350 project, China participated in the design and manufacturing of 5% of the airframe structure at the beginning of the project. At present, Airbus China's wide-body aircraft completion and delivery center is also steadily advancing related work to expand the completion and delivery capabilities of A350 aircraft. In 2021, Airbus will deliver the first A350 aircraft in Tianjin. This means that customers in China and even in Asia and other regions will be able to directly receive Airbus A320 series single-aisle aircraft and A350 wide-body aircraft from China.

Safran Group, a global aerospace giant, also chose to advance its market presence in China and expand cooperation with Chinese industry partners.

At present, Safran Group has more than 20 entities in China, and its business covers aircraft engines, helicopter engines, aircraft landing gear and brake systems, nacelles, flight control systems, transmission systems, aircraft seats, and passenger cabins. The group not only actively participates in C919, ARJ21, Xinzhou series regional aircraft, AC352, turboshaft 16 and other major Chinese aircraft, helicopters and engine projects, but also cooperates with Air China and China Eastern Airlines to establish aircraft maintenance centers. .

Safran China stated that Sichuan International Aviation Engine Maintenance Co., Ltd., a joint venture of Safran Group in China, completed the full maintenance capability of China's first LEAP-1B test vehicle in July 2020, and plans to increase LEAP-1A test capacity in early 2021.
The LEAP series engine is a new generation engine after the CFM56, which is widely used in the commercial aviation field. Sichuan International Aviation Engine Maintenance Co., Ltd. plans to increase its annual maintenance capacity to 300 units after 2025, achieving the goal of annual revenue exceeding 10 billion yuan.

The most potential market

The International Monetary Fund’s "World Economic Outlook Report" released on January 26 predicts that the global economy will grow by 5.5% in 2021, while the Chinese economy will grow by 8.1%.

According to data from the Ministry of Commerce, in 2020, online retail sales of physical goods in China will reach 9.8 trillion yuan, an increase of 14.8% against the trend. China has become the world's largest online retail market for eight consecutive years.

Chen Jialiang, Senior Vice President of FedEx and President of China Region, said: “As a firm advocate and promoter of global trade, FedEx will continue to play to its professional advantages and value, and connect domestic and overseas markets through continuous enhancement of its own capacity, network construction and innovation capabilities. Channels provide more efficient cross-border logistics services for the Chinese market and customers, and help them participate in international cooperation and competition."

In Chen Jialiang's view, the development of cross-border e-commerce will become a powerful driving force for China's foreign trade, and it will also play a greater role in global free trade in the context of the "double cycle" and become a driving force for economic recovery.

Statistics show that from a global perspective, the booming development of China's cross-border e-commerce has prompted the Asia-Pacific market to occupy 62.6% of the global e-commerce market, which has further promoted the development of the regional economy. "Under the background of building a new development pattern of'dual cycle', cross-border e-commerce has become an important link connecting domestic and international dual markets and a new channel to stimulate economic growth." Chen Jialiang said.

In fact, air cargo is the main force of cross-border logistics, and with the unparalleled speed and quality of air transportation, it has become a "time machine" for transporting key materials and stabilizing the supply chain in the global fight against the epidemic.

China's domestically growing aviation companies have also played a vital role in supporting the fight against the epidemic and the restoration of global supply chains. SF Airlines, an air cargo company under SF Express, took the lead in launching the "reverse flight" model to stabilize the logistics supply chain and help Wuhan fight the epidemic on January 24, 2020. As of Wuhan's unblocking on April 8, SF Airlines has carried out a total of 290 flights and transported 6,874 tons of cargo for the transportation of epidemic prevention and daily supplies. In order to support the global effort to fight the epidemic, SF Airlines successively opened new domestic routes to Singapore, Japan, Thailand, Belgium, Croatia and other countries, providing a strong guarantee for cross-border emergency transportation.

SF Airlines stated that since mid-February 2020, the company will closely follow up the aviation logistics needs of the society for resuming work and production while ensuring transportation for epidemic prevention. Actively cooperate with SF International, special economic projects, cold chain and other business sectors to promote the resumption of production in manufacturing, cross-border e-commerce, fresh food e-commerce and other industries.

"Chinese airlines are transforming from bigger to stronger, Honeywell will continue to maintain cooperation with airlines to help them achieve technological updates, equipment upgrades, and help them reduce costs and improve operational efficiency." Lin Shiwei said.

In 2021, China's large aircraft C919 is expected to obtain an airworthiness certificate, and ARJ21 is also expected to reach 100 aircraft off the assembly line. Honeywell will continue to cooperate with Chinese manufacturers to complete the progress of projects such as C919 and ARJ21. In addition, Honeywell also has a mature engineering and technical team in China to better support Chinese customers, provide localized services, and help them improve efficiency.

"We also see the prospects of general aviation, urban air transportation, helicopters and business jets in the Chinese market. The general aviation market in western China has huge potential. The helicopter market has also begun to grow, and there is great room for growth." Lin Shiwei said.

At the same time, market factors such as road congestion, explosive growth of e-commerce and the demand for fast logistics make urban air transportation (UAM) and unmanned aerial services (UAS) the future trend. "China is the world's most potential aviation market. Honeywell looks forward to continuing to provide products and solutions to strengthen cooperation with China's civil aviation industry partners to help China's civil aviation industry become more competitive in the global market." Lin Shiwei Say.
